I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a broken one.
I have a W-TCP that I obtained probably 30 years ago; the insulation on
the cable between the base and the iron deteriorated over time to the
point where I replaced it with a chunk of CAT 5 cable. And yes, I used
a cheapo iron to solder those connections. Hopefully it'll last me
another 30 years now.
Someone mentioned that parts are easily available for these. Any pointers?
I also have a Weller soldering gun for those big jobs. :-)
