Think DEC built the first minis? Not so fast...
I'm pleased to announce that we have just published a new, carefully researched
article on
Tronola.com which explores this very question:

Enjoy!

It's kind of a silly question. "Minicomputer" is just a made-up
marketing word to make computers sound less scary than mainframes /
"Giant Brains".
However I did enjoy the part about secret military projects. My favorite
one is the MicroPac -- "Micro-Module Data Processor and Computer" --
made in the early 1960s by RCA as part of the Army Signal Corps'
Fieldata program. MicroPac was a general-purpose computer weighing about
100 pounds.
