No--it refers to the programming language RPG, which mandated that
fields for statement types be in certain columns. Colum 1, for
example, used "D" to specify a data element declaration and "A" to
specify computational statements. There were other characters for,
say, print formatting.
Drum cards were a necessity when punching.
