That has been my experience as well. I know it was something simple mounted
in a bracket that could be installed in place of the HDD. It would be nice
to know what they used just for the historical aspect of it if nothing else.
Yes, I'd like to know waht it is for much the same reason. Oddly,m it is
not mentioned in any fo the Techrefs I have (I have the PC/AT one, the
O&A, the O&A update for the AT, etc).
I would assume it was designed to operate for
prolonged periods (i.e. as
long as the computer was on) so it must have had some sort of (passive)
cooling as well.
I thini it was one of those metal-cased power resistors and was cooled by
the airflow from the fan. Maybe also 'cotnact cooled' by being fixed to
the chassis metalwork.
