In Florida, it has become common for one to be sitting in one's living
room and suddenly notice it's getting warm in the house. You go outside
and find that some street urchin has made off with the copper coils in
the condenser unit of your air conditioner.
The academic and telecomms communities in the UK have plenty of
instances of fibre optic links suddenly going down, and the repair crews
finding someone has ripped up "the wires" to sell for scrap.
