Not required, but just for information, Mac

I can't remember an instance where a Mac application allowed the
user to enter the colons, although they were used internally, and
you could use them in some developer tools that gave command
lines or operated on "makefile"s.
I remember "discovering" the colon-paths when using Kermit between
a VAX and a Mac (I was attempting to build a backup solution for
my mother's typsetting shop - my VAX-11/725 was in the basement,
beneath 4 compact Macs with 4MB or less of RAM and less than 20MB
of disk. The idea was to have folks leave for the night with Mac
Kermit in server mode, and let the VAX back up documents in a
backup folder. I figured if I could get it to work, my mother wouldn't
mind paying for the power to run my VAX.
Never did get it completely working. I think the scripting in
the version of KERMIT-32 I was using was immature. Wish I still
had that VAX.
So... _technically_ speaking, I was on a VAX, but I was using an
app that ran on a Mac that required me to use colon-paths. Not
a normal Mac experience, to be sure.
