Middle era Seagate drives (the ST-225 era) sound like a steel mill
running out of control. Meaning, they are horrendously noisy.
That teeth-grating 'Seagate sound' is very characteristic and one
can tell a machine has one of those drives lurking within just by
the sound. My first hard drive, a Shugart 5-1/4" full height 5
meg drive, was one of the quietest I have ever owned. I think it
was a model ST-506.
