  I've still got a few big Halon-charged units whose
gauges say they're
 fine, but I know that Halon's a no-no because it eats a hole in the 
 sky. 
For the stationary room-flooding fire extinguisher installations, they now have other
gases/mixtures such as Argon, Novec 1230, Inergen or Argonite. I don't know if these
are also used in hand-held fire extinguishers.
