Has anyone tried a camera flash as a way of very quickly erasing
EPROMs?

I remember there was an eprom eraser that used a flash tube, but I
haven't seen or heard about it in many, many years.

A regular camera flash is probably the wrong thing to use, as by design
they don't emit a large amount of short-wave UV.
In the early 1990s, Parallax sold a programmer for the EPROM-based PIC
microcontrollers that had an optional flash tube for quick erase.
