Dumps of the firmware is now up at www.bitsavers.org/HP/1000_firmware
including the IOP firmware the 21MX.
Jay, since you appear to have the only surviving copy of the 2100 IOP
firmware, it would be good to get the proms read.

You're quite sure you have a set of the IOP firmware for the 2100 cpus Ed?
If so, good to know. I really want to get mine backed up as they seem to be
the only ones around. However, I got a new prom burner and it is acting very
flaky so I'm a little afraid to put my chips in it.

well I have the set that is in the 2100 in the 2000 access system here.
not a loose set. ( shall we call it embedded?)

remember, the access we ran at computer exchange inc. was all 2100
based... 21 mx's we kind of a novelty...
we are looking for some more 2100's for spare and also off site outreach
displays also. hate to yank a 2100 out of the 200 access system to take to
a off site display...

There is a 2100 on ebay right now, gauranteed to be working. I won't go for
it, a fifth one would be greedy :)
Also - Ed Sharpe sent me something I had NEVER run across before. Apparently
the 2100A/S did also come with a desktop, rather than rackmount front bezel.
At least, I'm guessing that's what it is. The indentation that runs across
the top front face... it's gone in the picture I got. Definitely a different
casting and I have never seen that before in any other literature. Can
anyone speculate what gives there?

I have two programmers of interest....
A Xeltek SuperPro III, able to burn the generic versions of the 2100
microcode ROM, which
is also the HP21MX boot loader ROM.
And a 'real' HP 2100 microcode ROM burner. This is a HP1000-series I/O
card with a cable
and 'pod' to hold the ROM in a ZIF socket.
These ROM's can be burnt, given a fairly large supply of blanks.

Eric, no, unfortunately do not.. any of the 2000 access systems that
computer exchange inc supported in the old days had 2100's in them, we
may have accidentally had a processor with this in it at one time but alas
long gone... geesh! wish I had the hp pile o' goodies now I had back
then...... still have the one access system here in a glass display case I
gave the SMECC museum and the 2116 that was the system processor for phx.
union high schools 2000a system.

There is some confusion in my mind on this point Eric. Most people and
sources I've talked to say that 2000 Access (and thus the IOP firmware) was
NEVER ported to the E series, only the M. However, I have one manual that is
prerelease that mentions 2109 and 2113, definitely E series. I think Al said
he might have found some reference that proves that the IOP firmware was
actually ported by HP to the E. Can you confirm?
No matter in any case... some work is underway to re-port the M series IOP
microcode to the E series. That's why I was scrounging for WCS boards :)
When tested, it will be uploaded anywhere that will take it.
