Which PLA where? Is that in one of the Western Digital 1600 family chips?
I thought the WD chipset was basically an ALU chip, a timing and control
chip, and one or more microcode ROM chips.

I'd never heard of this one before. It looks like they built a QBUS CPU
card using the MicroEngine chipset, and it works with standard QBUS
peripherals. It doesn't seem to have much in common with an 11/03, though,
other than that it's QBUS and quad width. I suppose you could pull the CPU
card out of an LSI-11 system and plug one of these in - that'd be
interesting.
I don't think it's going to be easy to find one, though!

That would be a huge amount of work. The "system control lines" from the
control chip are used very differently in the WD9000 chipset vs. the LSI-11
chipset. It would be easier to just build a Microengine from scratch.

Oh man it's tempting to get even more sidetracked for the next E11 release.
On a related note, does anyone have the 11/60 WCS toys in captivity?
