Looking for mini serial female by serial male adapter, could use mini

I've never heard of a connector with that name. could you make a picture
of the receptable? is it din-8 like on older macs, db9?

Not sure what is being asked for here. Maybe a cable with a Micro-D
connector on one end? Those are used in some commercial embedded
computer applications.
Here is an example of a Molex Micro-D 9 to a D-Sub 9 adapter cable:

HP/Agilent use these Micro-D connectors on some of their embedded VXI
controllers, for example E1497A / E1498A
You can sometimes find equivalent cables cheaper on eBay when the
seller doesn't know what they are and doesn't describe them properly,
which makes them harder to search for and find.

I assumed mini meant a DE-9 rather than a DB-25 (cue D-shell sizing
discussion...)
Radio Shack used to carry them, but I don't know if they still do. Probably
not, but the range of odds and sods at the back of my local one surprised
me when I last* went into it (there wasn't much, it's just that what they
did have seemed like quite a random collection of things)
* admittedly about 5 years ago. I don't like wading through salespeople who
are all desperate to help me.

Perhaps he means Mini-DIN8 to DE9. I don't see them often in the wild, but
you can easily find Mini-DIN8 (male) to DB25, which is easily adapted to DE9.
I don't often see any cables with Mini-DIN8 female, though.
If you're looking for miniature DE9, I wouldn't know where to start, but I'm
sure someone else does.
