Hi folks,
At a local swap meet this morning, I stumble across a pair of DEC
Rainbows. I got both of them for $45! Hey, no comments from the peanut
gallery, _I_ think these are collectible anyway :) And they're getting
really hard to find, so I'm happy.
Unfortunately, as is all too often the case these days neither one had a
keyboard or monitor with it. So I'm looking for at least one VR201
monitor and an LK201 keyboard. If you've got any spares floating around
please drop me a line. I think they're starting to be unobtanium, which
is really too bad.
I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area, by the way.

Understood if you want it to be period-appropriate, but shouldn't
an LK401 work where a 201 will? They're a little easier to come by.

Yeah, absolutely. The LK401 is (as far as I know) 100% compatible with
the LK201, and in fact I have a couple of them sitting right here in my
closet. So the VR201 is the more important of the two to get my hands
on. But that said, I still wouldn't mind having an LK201 for the
aforementioned period-appropriateness.

You can use any RS170 (TV-rate) compositie monochrome monitor. It's not
'period appropraite', but it works.
You need to wire up a special adapter with a DA15 plug (to conenct to the
'bow), a 4p4c socket (for the keyboard) and some suitable socket (RCA
phone, BNC, whatever) for the monitor. I've posted detaisl fo this many
times before, if you can't find it in the archives I can post it again.
Since this doesn't involve modifying anything 'classic', I think it's a
reasoable thing to do. If you ever get the VR201, you cna plug it
straight in, in place of the adapter.
