controlled rectifier? Or know of a suitable equivalent?

The web only turns up NSN data on this device:

Searches on the C232... part define it as a 100V 25A device as well.

Yup, that's how it's listed in the schematics. It's part of the crowbar
circuit on the DEC 540972800 regulator board.
There are no visible markings on the part itself It's in an exotic (to
me) big three-pin can package.

From the looks of it as long as it can handle the
current, just about any SCR should work. The crowbar is activated by the supply voltage
exceeding the voltage of the Zener plus the voltage required to trigger the SCR.

I happen to have the 1538 page GE Semiconductor Data Handbook from 1971. I
was building "Color Organs" back then, remember the color lights that dimmed
in sync with music?
I think this is the datasheet you need.

Brilliant, thank you! That is EXACTLY it. If only I'd searched for "C32A"
without the X135, I could have saved myself some trouble.
NTE has an equivalent in the same package, in fact. NTE5517
