floppies (ours has an RL drive too). I'm not sure about the OS,

You bet it does. The 8000 series spans a lot of time and variation.
The right answer is seriously dependent on the specific model.
Depending on specific model and date code the console could have
been LSI-11, 11/23, T-11 for the Qbus variants and 11/23 via
Pro350, J11 via Pro380.

I recently acquired a "VAX Console" which I understand to be a Pro 380. I
have not tried it out yet though...

This manual (1986) refers to it as a PRO-38N running P/OS and console
applications:
