At the time that the WD Pascal MicroEngine came out, I was informed (by someone who would have known) that *it* was a re-use of the LSI-11 chip set using new microcode. That was 30+ years ago, so I have no way to back it up now, but I'm going to challenge you to provide the evidence that WD came first.
