<Actually, most versions of passwd bypass the request for the old password <if you are running them as root. I'd try 'passwd root' and see what happens For ULTRIX you can go Single user and "edit" the password to "" and then the root password is null. The trick however is finding it and dealing with ED. I believe this works with other versions of Unix too. Allison
