At the risk of sounding like a complete and utter
moron, why can't you
operate for more than 15 minutes with the cover removed?
 Because it will overheat.
Contrary to popular belief amongst the PC-crowd, most machines run
most non-PCs. Most PC cases are so badly designed that they DO run cooler
with the cover off. I'm thinking of the inside of my pc, which is such a
rats nest of cables and whatnot it's amazing it hasn't fried already.
_hotter_ with the case off, as the cooling air from
the fan is no longer
directed over the PCBs, etc. A lot of instruments can't be run for long
periods with the case removed for this reason.
