You've got me confused, where do either I or the original poster say HDV?
HVD is High Voltage Differential SCSI, an "archaic" form of SCSI that
allows for greater cable lengths than standard SCSI. I just retired
a system where the HVD Jukebox sat about 50 feet away from the Sun
Ultra 2's it was connected to.

Depending on what OS you intend to use, you'll want
to watch out for
which cards you get. I know most of the ones we
used at work
wouldn't work on newer than Solaris 2.6.
