I don't think a final conclusion is likely. I have done the hand dish
soap wash, rinse, and blow water off with air compressor. My last was for
R series but I have done M. I don't immerse any component that may not be
sealed like pots, the old non epoxy encapsulated transformers. Those I
use damp brush and damp cloth anywhere around the sensitive components.
I used a normal and desiccant filter on the compressor to try to remove
all oil/water from the air.
I let them sit for a little while then put them back in the backplane with
only the fans running to finish drying.
I haven't tried much painting so can't help there.
