I think that the original idea behind that compartment was that TI would release vocabulary modules that would fit in there, but I could be wrong. I saw a working TI-99 at a thrift store yesterday. It has a power supply, but I didn't get it because I already have one. I'll see if I can pick it up tomorrow.
