Hazy memory, but I think some SGI systems out there relied on having drives that could be
addressed as though they had 512 byte sectors; if either of those have a jumper to set
this then they're probably useful to someone. I think the 4D machines fell into that
category, and probably others (and quite likely other hardware vendors, too)
Sure. At least on my uVAX, my CMD-220 SCSI card doesn't
like talking to CD drives with non-512 byte sectors. It also
balks at poorly-compliant drives, like the Pioneer 2x I was
trying earlier. Had great luck with Plextor units, though.
