I was a consultant for Tandem for a few years in the early 1990s
(although I did not work on this model).
As I understood it then, the customer base was exclusively companies
that could tolerate no downtime. Thus, banks, telecomminication
companies, airline reservation systems, and so forth. The systems
were more expensive compared to competitors due to the hot-plug
redundancy.
So yes, I would not expect to find many Tandem systems on the used
market :-)
