Ok, the schematics was very useful. It took me five minutes and an
oscilloscope to find the problem: the only capacitor. When I'm looking
Had I known it ws an 861 or similar, I would have suggested that at the
start. That smoothing cap dries up anbd the contactor chatters like crazy.
There is anotehr problem with 861s -- maybe o nthe 230V versions only.
The reed relay that drives the contactor coil is used a bit beyond its
ratings, and the contacts tend to weld closed. You can spot this one if
you turn the machine off ant the panel, but things stay powered-up. Then
hittign the 861 box wil lcause it to power down (it jars the contacts
open). The normal fix is to repalce the reed switch, but that's only a
temporary cure :-(
