[I guess CC-BY-SA is actually the correct term.]
Sounds like a good idea. How close a reproduction do
you want? Use
original PCB artwork, or redo an approximation in CAD? I could do the
latter in Eagle, as time permits. Maybe the TVT also.
I've always wanted to do something as close as possible, but at the same
time I'd also like to see a proper solder mask on new boards. The original
boards didn't have a solder mask due to cost and design constraints, but
there is really no reason not to have both a solder mask and maybe even a
silkscreen today. If someone wanted a more 'original' looking board, they
could always omit the solder mask and silkscreen layers and have the
traces tin plated.
I've thought about converting the original drawings into a CAD format for
years (since I got my i8008 cpus) but I've just never gotten around to
working on it. At least we have the original artwork and drawings to start
with.
I'd definitely want boards with plated through
holes.
Plated through holes are pretty much a must today. The original boards
didn't have plated though holes for the same reason the boards didn't have
a solder mask. I'd want to socket most chips, and soldering both the top
and bottom sides would make that very difficult (the idea of standing wrap
sockets up off the board to solder both sides just isn't terribly
appealing).
