I'm not sure this is quite 10 years old, but....
I have an HP Apollo 9000/735 with the infamous HIL kbd/mouse port.
I've been running the thing headless since I got it because I can't
bring myself to pay the asking price for the "Localization Kits" out
there.
I've run across references to & pictures of an adapter that converts
HP-HIL to 2 PS/2 ports. Does anyone have the pinouts/schematic for this
critter? Or have one they don't want?

Are you sure you're not thinking of the keyboard adapters for the
second-gen 700-series (like the 715/80, /64, /100, etc.)? You can't
connect a keyboard or mouse to those machines without the box, which
provides both HIL and PS/2 ports. These were a huge PITA to find for my
two 715/80s, and I think I ended up paying close to $80 apiece for them.

Probably. All I really know about this 735 is that I have it, that I
got it with HP/UX 10.2 on the disk, and that HP doesn't publish a lot of
info about the hardware online. I haven't done much more than get root
till I figure out how to do a DR backup.
Come to think of it, is the memory from a 720 compatible with the 735?

You want "mkrecovery". That will give you a bootable tape which can be
used to restore your system to its current state. I'm not an HP-UX nerd,
though, so check the man pages for caveats.

they're physically compatible." Not every 700-series system uses the
72-pin ECC RAM found in the 715, but more than that I couldn't tell you.

"foot" a la DECstation 5000/200 RAM. Looks like an overgrown IDE

Thanks. I don't have the HP/UX media, and I've got too many Linux
boxen, so I've been unwilling to risk hosing the install. Will
investigate.

FWIW, the memory from a 720 (A1094A) does indeed work in a 735
(A1929A). Yay.

Hey, Bear,
I hate to be a pest, but I'd like to know what you'll want for the HIL
keyboard & mouse. Also, if you know where I can find a set of the HP-UX
10.20 CDs on the cheap, that would be very cool. I'm not as concerned
about licensing issues as I probably should be....
I have a ton of stuff, mostly mini-computers, if you want to trade, or
I can do cash if you'd rather.

As far as I understand, you need to have a special HIL transceiver chip to
implement a HIL device and these chips are no longer in production. I'm
currently looking for a HIL interface for a PC in order to be able to use
HIL dials and buttons within a modern environment. The hardware issue seems
to be almost solved, but does anyone here have any experience with the ISA HIL
interface card and how it is programmed? I have some hope to be able to port
NetBSD's hp300 HIL driver to the ISA interface, but as of yet I have no idea
how realistic this would be.
Any pointers or experience reports would be greatly appreciated.

currently looking for a HIL interface for a PC in order to be able to use

I've never heard of or seen anything like that and I've worked with a
LOT of HPs. If want to use HIL devices on a PC I suggest that you buy an
old HP Vectra PC. They use AT-style DIN connector and HP-HIL.
