Is there any sort of terminal software available for Mac OS X that speaks DECnet or LAT?
I've spent the last couple days reviving my OpenVMS 8.3 and VAX/VMS 5.5-2 systems, and
would like to be able to access the VAX without having the Alpha online.
Next up, is my PDP-11/73, though cabling it is likely to be a bit of a challenge.
If I had room in my office, I'd think about bringing a terminal in here.

OS X, probably not so much. Linux, though, has a pretty
good set of DECNet software and kernel support.

I guess you might be able to run some of the ancient Pathworks stuff
for Windows under WINE, Crossover or just a VirtualBox VM with a copy
of Windows in it... But you'll need to run a copy of Windows old
enough that it understands DECnet, and I have no clue if VBox can pass
DECnet traffic out the host's Ethernet port - it only really expects
to handle TCP/IP!
FWIW, I have WfWg 3.11, Win95 OSR2, Win98SE, WinME & Win2K all running
successfully under VBox. It's pretty versatile. XP is the oldest
version on which the Extensions work, though, so no shared drives,
clipboard, screen-resizing, accelerate graphics or anything.

At that point I'd be inclined to look at emulating a PDP-11 on my Mac and running
RSX-11M+ to get DECnet. That or I just fire up the Alpha when I want to play with the VAX
from my office. I don't know that I have the necessary Pathworks software.

work fine on OS X. Just download and build.
I've used this to connect to TOPS-10 (klh10 on a linux box).

I?ve been working on a Python implementation of DECnet, but that doesn?t (yet) speak any
application layer protocols.
It would be an entertaining exercise ? and should not be all that hard ? to do LAT in
Python.

put it in a grey DEC binder! Not sure I have media, though I do have
some pretty old Multinet media; no licenses, though perhaps a current
hobbyist one would work?)

The machine in question has a fairly recent version of Multinet installed, however,
standard TCP/IP services such as Telnet, SSH, and FTP are disabled for security reasons.
I ran CMU/IP on my original VAX, a MicroVAX II, and I think I might have it installed on
my 3100/30 (assuming it still boots. Come to think of it, if the 3100/30 boots, that
would be an interesting low power solution. :-)
I've never had any issue with DEC TCPIP on OpenVMS/VAX v7.3, but haven't used it
as heavily as I have TCPIP on OpenVMS/Alpha.
