suspect this is a different arrangement from the original 820 aka Ferguson
Bigboard.

I am sure you are right but, I don't see anything
but a power supply with the
floppy drives in this video. Looks identical to the non II floppy units I

I think we're talking about different cases. The disk controller is
clearly visible in the closeup of the computer itself. It may have been a
different PCB in the floppy vs. hard-disk system.
On a related subject, I would love to get my hands on an 820-II with hard
drive. Had two lined up at different points but both sellers flaked out
and stopped answering e-mail. Wonder if there's some sort of distortion
field projected from these units?
If anybody has one they'd like to part with, I can do cash or trade.

how well the hard drive would stand up to any kind of shipping stress by
