Heh. If you listen to this crowd, PDP-11s and ASR33s
can be found in
any dumpster or on any street corner anytime, and nobody should ever pay
more than a dollar or two for one. ;)
There WAS such a situation at one time. One of my colleagues acquired
through dumpster diving way more stuff (including a PDP11), than he could
store, and our college administrators tried to fire him for "being a hoarder".
I have a standing offer:
If John Titor will provide me with one way transportation to 1962, I will,
when it becomes feasible, get him a 5100 with APL AND BASIC, and make a
few minor investments to fund his entire project.
If anybody else can send me back half a century, then when it becomes
feasible, I will stash a few hundred choice machines.
