It is. I have read thousand of tapes with a Powerbook G3 and various SCSI interfaced drives (Kennedy, HP, M4 Data and Qualstar). Surprisingly, for 1600/6250 the Qualstar 34xx is the best at recovering data. The Kennedy 96xx was working great on 800bpi tapes 'til the takeup tension arm started failing self-test.
