I have one of these, but the system has HP-IB disk and tape. I'd like
to use a SCSI tape to install on it. On the CPU card, there is what
looks like a 50-pin connector. Does that need active electronics to
work like the second HP-IB bulkhead that currently occupies the slot?
Also does anyone have digital manuals for this particular model?

Also, HP 16 and 32 track tapes are NOT compatible at all with
QIC. They have no EOT/BOT holes. If you put an HP tape into a
QIC tape drive it will rewind all of the way to the other end
of the tape and spool off the end

Series-300 doesn't support booting from SCSI/QIC tape
It does support SCSI CD-ROM

It looks like the on board SCSI is straight through wikimedia has images of
the 380 CPU board plumbed to the bulkhead with just a cable/connector

The SCSI connector on the bulhead of the 380 CPU card is a standard 50
pin SCSI-1 single ended SCSI connector.? Like most SCSI initiators the
bus is terminated on the system board.? The built in interface is
equivalent to the 98568A DIO SCSI interface card.? I have never tried to
boot from a tape drive, but I do know that booting from CDROM and disk
does work.
