overloaded/unreachable/down/etc.

However, this is really just a warning, as the mail will sit around on

yeah, the kernel (or the smtp server process itself) ran out
of usable file descriptors, so too many open files. Which
probably means too many server-side SMTP sockets, meaning
someone DOS'd it.
