It could be for an Amiga parallel port, to connect
to a 1541 disk drive.
The Amiga's parallel port was bidirectional
(allowing things
like the DigiView to feed data into the computer)
and several
companies made software and hardware to handle
1541s on the
Amiga. I don't think CBM itself ever did it,
though...
