This morning, I just thought of something that I should do with all of
my systems, and thought I'd pass the idea along. Some of you have
probably also thought of this and done this, but for those who
haven't...
I got to thinking about the last time my Sun 4/110 went down due to a
disc crash, and was thinking about how to make things a little easier
(aside from backups) when it, or another system, crashes. A few years
ago, it seemed easier to find specs, jumper info., etc. for all sorts
of 5-1/4" drives, but it seems a little more difficult these days.
Hence, it might be helpful to get the jumper information, SCSI or
other drive select ID and configuration information, for each
drive and tape tape it on a small piece of paper on each drive, or
place it somewhere inside each chasis containing disk or tape drives,
etc.
Of course, a spare boot partition on one or more of the drives would
also help. :-)
Hopefully this will help someone out there resuscitate a system more
quickly and less painstakingly.
