Don't necessarily trust "electricians"
or utility companies either!
35 years ago, in a brand new building (roof, but no floor yet), landlord's
electrician and PG&E wired the three phase for my compressor wrong,
providing ~200 volts to all of the outlets.
Today at lunch, one of my co-workers told us about an occasion a number of years back,
when an electrician at the local electricity company (in a small town in Sweden) had made
a wrong connection, feeding the whole area about 300V instead of 220V. Apparently it cost
the power company millions to replace all the freezers and fridges that had burnt out.
