There's an iMac (CRT-based) turned up for sale locally with a white / clear
pale-blue case; is it safe to assume that it's either:
A first-generation (or first-gen rev C/D),
An iMac SL,
An iMac DV/SE
... i.e. Apple didn't offer that case style/color on any of the later
systems, so it's got to be one of the earlier ones from around 1999/2000?

It is a first generation or second. The first has a cd drive with a blue
buttom. The second has a slot loading CD with a blue accent around it

Thanks - from what I can tell from the photo it's a second-gen, then.
The seller originally advertized it as an eMac, but it was just possible to
make out 'iMac' on the front of the machine in their photo; when I asked
them if they knew which model it was, the response was "Apple, I think, but
I'm not sure" :-)

iMacs Rev A/B are only Bondi Blue. Rev C/D had multiple colors (none of which were
Bondi). All of those have translucent ("frosted") cases and tray-loading
drives. If it has a TRANSPARENT case and a slot-loading CD drive, it's one of the
subsequent revisions (the DV/SE have FireWire, but I don't know of any other easy way
to identify them externally).
