Several reasons. [SNIP] I would want a
machine that would fit in nx4 or nx8 format parts.
Bear in mind that some really interesting parts useful for this sort of
thing (high-speed synchronous SRAMs, for example) come in x9 flavors
to support parity on x8 byte machines.
