It syncs down to 15.5 khtz and should work. The problem is the 13 pin
connector for the ST. Most of the older Nec multisyncs will work, with the
exception of the 2A. I have details for making a switch-box but there are
several people supplying adaptors at a reasonable price, also ones for SVGA.
The 3D model is of course the holy grail of compatability, especialy for
Amigas. But the 1401, the original NEC Multisync, is a neat monitor for
collectors multi-purpose compatability. NEC has a good multisync page at

The real problem I've had with the 3D is that it wasn't made nearly as
well as earlier (and most later) monitors from NEC. Most every 3D I've
seen was either dead, or in really bad shape. Some of them could be
rebuilt.
I'm actually using an NEC 2A and a gs2A right now.
Speaking of all these old NEC monitors, does anyone know where I can get
the service manuals for the 2A/gs2A/3D/4D and a few others?
Wow, NEC finally put all that info back online? I was wondering if they
ever would...

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've found Philips service manuals and
parts to be some of the easiest of all to obtain. Mind you, that was
back when Philips actaully made most of the stuff with their name on. I even managed to get a service manual for a Philips
CD-ROM drive (the
only CD-ROM service manual I've ever seen).

Pioneer has manuals for all of their cdrom changers. I'm not sure if they
have them for single disc cdrom and dvd drives, but based on Pioneer's
attention to quality and serviceability, they probably do offer them.

I've tried to get NEC items serviced twice, once was a NEW Multispped
laptop and the other was a NEC Versa laptop. Both times service was by
independent shops (that didn't even seLl NEC!) and both times it was a
total fiasco! I'll think long and hard before I buy another NEC product!
