Stardent was not a follow-on from Ardent. Stardent made a graphics supercomputer with a fancy very wide data path between the CPU and the graphics engine. Something like 512 bits wide... My wife worked there. Stardent attempted to generate a market for a product that did not already exist. Some were sold for scientific visualization and other high-end uses. Quite a unique machine really...not your average workstation at all.
