IIRC, that is the exit rollers. Like most rubber rollers, they harden over time, causing them to start groaning as paper passes thru. I don't think it is something you have to fix ASAP. If you ignore it, eventually paper will stop exiting and jam. I repaired mine with a kit from fixyourownprinter.com (I also did the pickup rollers at the same time).
