Subject: update on my father
Very sorry to inform my father passed away in his sleep peacefully at
home last night. His health had been deteriorating of late, and took turn
for worse on the weekend. I will circle back around
soon, for now just wanted to give you all advance notice and look forward
to discussing your thoughts as I am a bit fuzzy at present.
I am very sorry to receive this news on a couple of levels. Doug was on
the 'short list' of a research project for which I am seeking funding, to
collect social/cultural oral histories from such key innovators in the
emergence of interactive computing. (This is not part of the Living
Computer Museum, but rather my work as a PhD researcher.) Doug was in my
top five, given his significance and, to be honest, his age. We are
losing our pioneers. We know what they did: the purpose of my work is to
preserve the story of what they thought about it, what they saw as they
looked out across the social and cultural landscape of their times. I'm
running out of time.
Having lost parents to death, my heart feels sympathy with Christina. My
soul grieves for the loss to us all of a member of the community of
innovation that has transformed the world in an eyeblink of history. --
