I have a P03 and can't find a suitable tape drive to connect to :(
Tried lot of drives, internal or external, but none of them was
recognized...
Does someone have a spare unit?

I used the 7207-012 with mine successfully, they pop up on eBay. Not sure
how critical the cable is on the P03 side, but due to the physical design
on the tape drive side only limited cable options fit the deeply recessed
connector design on the back of the tape drive.
I would be keen to have another P03 if anyone has one surplus.

correct cables are critical.

I own a similar cable, but it has a VHDC connector, it's for a PS2 95,
but the termination it's the same... can't forget that ugly brick ;)

I referenced the wrong cable, it seems I have two cables, see this
picture, the cable is the one to the right:

and looking at my notes, you are also correct the SCSI ID should be
set to #1 for external tape. I used no-additional-terminator either.
Also in my notes it seems the tape appeared as TAP02 too (TAP01 was in
the list but not detected).

One thing to consider here, is that the 7207 tape drive is intended for use with RS/6000.
According to the IBM documentation, you can use a 7207 on an AS/400 but that it will load
AS/400 firmware into the drive, which will prevent it from being usable again on an
RS/6000. IOW, the RS/6000 won't load its firmware into the drive after it's been
loaded with AS/400 firmware.

I read that too in one of the RedBooks. I don't have any older
RS/6000s to test with but it would be interesting to confirm the
claim.
