All,
I'm researching into the diskette format which might have been used on a GEC 4000
series computer running OS4000. The media I'm attempting to archive is 5.25"
DSDD, and I've been through the obvious formats. I'm fairly certain it's MFM
encoded based on the bit pattern histogram.
Anyone know different / better / more?
Cheers,
Colin
I would have expected them to be IBM format, but its so long since I
used OS4000 I have forgotten everything I knew. However I do have a copy
of "Practical X.25 Networking" which sadly doesn't help that much. It
says the GEC4065 used for an X.25 switch were 8" DSSD holding 512Kb and
that they were in "Standard OS4000 Format" so not much info there,
except perhaps that OS4000 has its own format....
I wonder if any one a Janet (
www.ja.net) knows anything thing. I think
David Salmon was there when they used OS4000......
