Merry
Newtonsday, or if you prefer, Christmas, Midwinter, Winter
Solstice, Yule,... to all members of this list and their families.
I celebrated
Yalda on the 21st.
Yeah, and I (and the rest of our Grove) kept sunreturn vigil the night
of the 21st. But it seemed a bit declasse to snark at a (presumably)
well-intentioned well-wisher about how Newtonsday/Christmas isn't the
Solstice, especially since there's a sense in which Christmas (both
religious and secular) is a Solstice observance (and Newtonsday is a
mutation of it), even though it's no longer done on the solstice.
(Doing it exactly on the solstice doesn't matter all that much for
now-common purposes anyway.) Perhaps I should have put more effort
into finding a way to mention it that didn't sound snarky....
