The /76 has dual SCSI busses, so the presence or absence of the external terminator is not
critical
for proper operation of the internal devices, provided that the internal bus line is
properly terminated.
Another vote in favor of hacking in a CD-ROM drive and booting from the disks.
Unfortunately, VAX-VMS doesn't have
the "Minnie-VMS" environment that Alpha does.
