Using VanDyke's CRT telnet client as a 'console' for Rich's Altair Emulator, I find that I have to configure an option to make it play nicely: In 'Sesion Options" "Connection" "Telnet" [X] Force Character at a time mode That seems to have made it work well... and the launching sequence is critical, as laid out in a previous message...
