The ProFile (5 MB) spent the last years in storage.
What should i do before starting the self test?
The ProFile was used on either a LISA or an
Apple III or an Apple II.
I'd hate to test it on, say, a LISA and accidentally
wipe out Apple II or III data. Is there a safe way
to find out about the content?

I'd say, just turn it on but don't connect it to a machine. It'll
blink
for the first 3-5 minutes while it goes through its self test. If the
READY light turns on and stays on after 5 minutes, all is good.
The Lisa Boot ROM will only try to read the first block and if the tags
say AA,AA, will start booting off it. It won't harm any data. So if it
boots on a Lisa, you know it's for a Lisa.
