How hard should I be kicking myself for not snagging an
HP 9000/236 for $30
at a hamfest in Timonium, MD? Did any of the other folks on this list pick
it up?
I've been wondering the same thing. I passed on it, too. I talked to
the guy, though, and he said it couldn't boot completely and needed the
OS.
I made out pretty well at the show, though. Purchased:
Outbound Laptop
Franklin ACE 500 w/manuals & Franklin monitor
Mac 128k
Stack of Apple Dealer CD's
TRS-80 Model 2
Imagewriter LQ
Rasterops 21" Grayscale display
Lots of old Mac software (including ][ in a Mac!)
A bunch of Mac accessories (MacNifty, 128k/512k accelerator)
Zenith Data Systems Luggable
Two Apple Tape Drives
One bottle of Apple Juice
Total amount spent was $65. I collect Apple clones, finding two makes
for a very successful hamfest.

disk based, ROM based (on plug in cards) or loaded from a file server
(Shared Resource Manager). You could also have more than one OS and choose
the one that you wanted at boot time. If you find any 9000 200 with the
ROM based OS for that kind of money I'd say grab it. I have a couple of
BASIC cards and I'd love to find some HPL and Pascal ones.
Also it's common for 9000 200s not to boot completely due to people
pulling the memory cards and leaving "holes" in the memory. This causes
the system to generate an error message and/or sometimes hang up.
FWIW These systems and their software are completely different from
anything else and you won't be able to configure or run them without a good
set of documentation. If you're remotely interested in these, don't miss
any opportunity to grab any available documentation.
