The instruction set of the System/34 looks CISC and
8-bit-ish, although
it handled 16 bit and (I think) 32 bit data. Typical speed seems to
have been 0.1 to 0.3 MIPS. Someone on this list some months ago
described it as "a room-sized 8088" which is probably about right,
performance-wise...
I think all of the S/3x family is CISC, often to the extreme with the
S/38. Even IBMs RISC machines, the POWER and POWER2 RS/6000s, were pretty
much CISC.
