The apple you eat is a McIntosh (no `a', `I' capitalized) and is named
after the farmer that first grew them. The Apple you compute on is the
Macintosh (includes `a', the `i' is not capitalized).
Why Apple Computer changed the spelling, I don't know.

A Macintosh is also Pommiespeak for a type of raincoat. You may draw your
own conclusions.
